Summary:

Bullingham, Liam (2021): Pay now or wait a year: embargoes as a selective barrier to access. Edge Hill University. Collection. https://doi.org/10.25416/edgehill.c.5336735.v1

This project stemmed from a review of journal article open access levels at Edge Hill University in 2019. The work considers public availability to research output, so there is no distinction between green and gold open access.

Embargoes - that is the period of time 'during which access to journal articles is not allowed to users who have not paid for access' (SPARC, 2015) - were measured and compared with regard to their application to research in different parts of the University.

The Collection includes:
  • - the full dataset of journal articles in 2019, including their embargo periods
  • - slides for a presentation during the 2021 UKSG Annual Conference
