Carnegie Mellon University’s Open Source Program Office (OSPO) is searching for a Program Manager that will help build and support the open source software community. Like other universities, CMU features diverse contributors and users ranging from single developers to large-scale projects with robust CI/CD infrastructure, all of whom have varying levels of awareness, experience, expertise, etc. with open source software. Consequently, the program manager will need a solid foundation of technical skills and a flexible, versatile mindset that embraces a willingness to learn. Working with the OSPO Director, the program manager will assess the current landscape to establish a baseline from which to build the community.   This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will contribute to the department by providing essential support by managing community outreach to faculty and students, organizing meetups and informational events.   Your core responsibilities will include: Creating and managing new community programs Organizing meetups, events, and other engagements Moderating, supporting, and engaging community members in online forums (e.g., Slack) Liaising with departments and student groups to organize internships, hackathons, etc. Advise OSPO Director and create plans to grow and support open source community Support developer community by identifying tools, resources, best practices, etc. particularly related to software maintenance or sustainability Participate in existing open source communities such as OSPO++   Flexibility, excellence, and passion are vital qualities within OSPO.  Inclusion, collaboration and cultural sensitivity are valued competencies at CMU.
