Vale Emeritus Professor John Melville-Jones AM FAHA 1933 – 2026

John was elected to the Academy in 1994 as a leading international authority on numismatics. He was well known for his work on ancient Greek coinage, and especially that of the Macedonians.

John was also well regarded for his research on Byzantine history and worked extensively with archival material of the 15th and 16th centuries shedding insights on Byzantine history.

We extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. He will be greatly missed.
