Report: 🇲🇼 Open Data Day 2025 in Zomba: GeoSkills Training for Climate Action

Spatial Girls Network joined the global village on 3rd March, 2025, in celebrating the Open Data Day 2025, which was within the Open Data Week. The theme for ODD25 was “Open Data to tackle the Polycrisis,” which inspired the theme of our event: “GeoSkills training for climate Action: Empowering Youths with Spatial Data Tools”. One of the knowledge gaps and challenges for most university students is the hands-on skills for development in the industry. In alignment with that, most YouthMappers have far been contributing to OpenStreetMap but have hardly used the data for analysis since the first YouthMappers chapter was established in Malawi at the University of Malawi, (UNIMA YouthMappers) in 2016.
