The Government of Montenegro adopted the Programme for the Implementation of Open Science Principles in Montenegro with the Action Plan for 2020-2022. According to the programme, research activities shuld be in the service of society as a whole and this implies that public funds invested research funding must be spent in an transparently.

It is expected that the dissemination of research results, in accordance with the Open Science policy, will motivate the national economy to invest in research projects and intensify cooperation eith the research sector in Montenegro. The Programme should aslo ensure open access to peer-reviewed articles, local academic publishing, and research data. Access ro research infrastructures will be ensured if their procurement or establishment is publicly funded, as welll as their interoperability with international digital research infrastructures.
