"The fourth webinar organised by the Global Open Science Cloud WG on Data Interoperability, and the third in our series surveying data interoperability activities in different countries and regions, took place on Tuesday 8 November at 07:00-08:30 UTC.  A panel of Australian experts held a lively discussion on interoperability challenges and opportunities, and the many activities going on ‘downunder’....Did you know that Australia’s National Research Infrastructure Roadmap highlights the need for integrated national-scale datasets to facilitate and encourage interdisciplinary approaches to problems? The Roadmap identifies needs and sets priorities for future investment in Australia’s national research infrastructure and underlines that “interoperability of data is essential to ensure use and reuse of data and collections to minimise duplication of efforts and resources”. In this presentation, a panel of experts from the Australian research infrastructure landscape will share challenges and opportunities in enabling data interoperability on a national scale, including the vision of the Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) to create “thematic research data commons” and we will discuss how these could complement the Global Open Science Cloud (GOSC).
