Summary:
An open science culture in educational research requires consideration of the dimensions of Open Science in application and appointment procedures. By mentioning Open Science practices or products in relevant job advertisements, incentives are set and corresponding efforts are recognized and rewarded. The aim of this study is to assess the current situation. The question of which Open Science dimensions are considered and thus incentivized in educational research-related job advertisements is investigated. In order to investigate the question, a systematic data collection is carried out, which records all job advertisements in the field of educational research/educational science in the period September 2024 – February 2025 (six months) on the platform Academics (URL: www.academics.de). During the survey period, the website is accessed weekly and searches are carried out using the terms “Bildungsforschung” (English translation: educational research), “Bildungswissenschaft” (English translation: educational science) and “Erziehungswissenschaft” (English translation: educational science). All search results are systematically documented, which means that both metadata (title of the vacancy, university advertising the vacancy, etc.) and the text content of the vacancies are recorded. The data evaluation analyzes the Open Science dimensions Open Access, Open Data, Open Methodology and Open Educational Resources (OER). The results indicate that Open Science appears in only about 5% of the analyzed job advertisements, revealing that it remains a largely untapped potential for fostering an Open Science culture in educational research.
