Research institutions are implementing policies free access to scientific publications (Open Access) and open their research data (Open Data) to accelerate scientific discovery and facilitate innovation. New forms of scientific and industrial collaborations are encouraged (Open Innovation) to generate synergies in breaking down barriers between disciplines and skills. This general trend in the opening of the research is part of the broader context of internationalization of science that, to varying degrees across disciplines are increasingly conducted within the framework of joint research units mélant public and private, national laboratories and international partners.
