"Open Source principles had already spread to relatively remote areas of software, such as the Open Hardware or the Open Design . But the project Open Source Seeds offers a model contract to place the seeds under a free license. At first glance, the idea may seem rather incongruous because we badly sees that seed may have in common with the software and why they need free licenses. But be aware that plant varieties may be the subject of intellectual property rights, whether through plant variety certificates (COV) in Europe or the United States patents . Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) can also be protected by patents , filed by large companies such as Monsanto, whose actions raise more and more concerns and protests . A form of copyleft 'green' is it possible for the seeds remain commons? The question needs to be asked! ..."
