CEMCA :: International Multi-stakeholder meeting on Development of Curriculum and Self-Directed Learning Tools for Open Access, New Delhi, September 04-06, 2013,

Summary:

"In participation with UNESCO, Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA) is leading a project on 'Development of curricula and Self-Directed Learning Tools for Open Access'. The objective of this project is to prepare a set of learning resources on open Access for three types of stakeholders i.e., Library Professional, Researchers in universities and UNESCO staff. To accomplish this project CEMCA has been implementing a systematic work-plan approved by UNESCO. First, CEMCA completed a series of detailed desk review and surveys covering the study entitled 'Capacity Building Needs to Foster Open Access' by Dr. Leslie Chan and Kathleen Shearer;  and a  survey entitled 'Situation Analysis and Capacity Building Needs for Open Access' by Anup Das to identify  needs of researchers in university  set-up. A  Delphi study on curriculum for Library and Information professionals prepared by Dr. Sanjaya Mishra also forms part of this project. Second, CEMCA initiated a series of online consultations entitled 'Discussion on Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes required by Librarians for Open Access' at Global Open Access List (GOAL) and World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). Another discussion entitled 'Promoting Open Access amongst young researchers' was  also started at Global Open Access List (GOAL) and World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) to discuss the position paper tentatively in order to develop a draft curriculum for discussion during the International multi-stakeholder experts’ meeting (4-6 September, 2013). The international multi-stakeholder experts’ meeting on Open Access at hotel Sarovar Portico, Nehru Place, New Delhi from 4-6 September 2013 shall be attended by experts from India, Argentina, Canada, Croatia, Lithuania, South Africa, Sri Lanka, besides officials of UNESCO Paris, and New Delhi. The experts will discuss and frame curriculum on Open Access for three different groups of stakeholders. In the next phase CEMCA, with the cooperation experts, will develop the curriculum into Self-Directed Learning materials."
