Summary:

[From Google's English] "After the first initiatives of the 2000s, alongside the need to make available for inspection volumes and materials already published, the trend has come forward to make available - almost in real time - the so-called raw data, ie the data of excavation so how they are produced on the field, without any elaboration or interpretation.  This is what I try to do the team of Roman Massaciuccoli providing stratigraphic diagrams, photos, floor plans, U.S. cards and all the material that can be produced during an archaeological dig.  Continuing along the path already marked by the experience of BibAr , the Laboratory of Applied Informatics to Medieval not only uses its own portal to store and make available materials and information 'raw' from the excavation of Miranduolo , but organized also a section for the interpretations of the staff and one for the excavation diaries of area managers.  Also in the Tuscan area has developed the MAP Project ( Methodologies Applied to Predictability of Archaeological Potential ) which aims to preserve and disseminate the culture of open knowledge starting right from the open data . Provides and makes available raw data or publications but also project a system of protection for those who produce this type of data.  Moving from Tuscany, it seems fair to point out the recent project Mothya Open DataSection of the Department of Oriental Studies and Ancient History of Sapienza University of Rome. Its work aims to computerize the documentation and publications produced during previous excavations and keep updated the platform with the most recent data products. Finally we must not forget that since 2006 there ArcheoFoss , a group of scholars and researchers who gather annually and take stock of the situation on open data in Italy comparing critically and constructively with the European landscape. The group has in itsmission the widespread use of open data as well as promoting the spread of free software in the field of archeology. In this regard, we must point out the initiative 'Opening the Pastsponsored by the boys of their MAP Project, which also took place this year in Pisa and saw a large participation of Italian and international audience.  The direction seems to be the right one but as long as this modus operandi is not assimilated and embraced by all research teams throughout the country - and the institutions - unfortunately the actual benefits of open data can not be appreciated."
