Information on revised green OA policy | Editor Resources

Summary:

"We have revised our policy around Green OA and posting of the Author Accepted Manuscript (AAM). The AAM is defined as the manuscript in its accepted, post-peer-review form, but not the final published article. There is now no embargo on authors posting the AAM to their own personal or departmental websites after publication of the final article. We advocate that a DOI link to the final article is included in the AAM, to direct readers to this version and facilitate citation: http://journalauthors.tandf.co.uk/permissions/reusingOwnWork.asp#green. Embargoes are still in place for posting the AAM to institutional repositories and subject repositories such as arXiv.org, as well as Social Scientific Networks (SSNs) such as Mendeley, ResearchGate, and Academia.edu. We wish authors to be able to disseminate their work as widely as possible but feel that there is an inherent risk of library subscription cancellations if embargoes are entirely lifted. We are keen to explore this hypothesis so are continuing our pilot in Library and Information Science (where authors are permitted to post their AAMs on any site or repository without embargo). Results of this pilot will be communicated in due course. Authors still receive a free access link by email to their final article, which they can send to up to 50 colleagues: http://journalauthors.tandf.co.uk/beyondpublication/promotearticle.asp. For U.K. journals or those which publish U.K.-authored research, this new policy means that we now have 'Green' status on SHERPA ROMEO (its highest ranking): http://www.sherpa.ac.uk/romeo/search.php. This database catalogs the Green OA policies of publishers and journals, and ranks them according to a color scheme. Key U.K. research funders recommend use of the associated database FACT to check whether a particular journal complies with their OA policies."
