<title>GRAPHIA Survey: Natural Language with Knowledge Graphs</title>
<description> How Do You Interact with Knowledge Graphs? We Want to Hear from You!

The GRAPHIA project team at Abertay University is running a short survey to understand how researchers, especially those in the Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH), work with knowledge graphs when supported by Large Language Models (LLMs).

Your perspective is essential. GRAPHIA is being co-designed with its users, and your input will directly shape future features and interaction styles. We’re particularly interested in how you explore and query research data, whether through natural language tools (like chatbots) or more structured interfaces (like dropdown menus).

Time commitment: ~15 minutes

Who can take part: SSH researchers at any career stage, including those with little or no experience with knowledge graphs or query languages

By participating, you’ll help guide the next phase of GRAPHIA’s co-design process and ensure it continues to grow around real user needs.

Take the survey by 16 January 2026: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf5BDE0Okrbz-9IWQWOR-AZD28sjB750rx8v_Bo9lTxPDaaOQ/viewform

Thank you for contributing to the future of research data interaction!

<title>OA Book Usage Data Trust Draft Participation Model - Community Consultation</title>
<description>The OA Book Usage Data Trust effort https://www.oabookusage.org/ works towards fostering the sharing, aggregation, benchmarking and agreed-upon uses of scholarship usage data across global stakeholders. It does this by facilitating data connector discoverability and data governance for direct usage data connections between OA book hosting organizations that create usage and impact data and the partners and providers they grant data access to.

The effort is currently seeking input on a proposed membership program that evolved from discussions among their Committee members and Trustees after 2023-2024 consultations indicated membership, grants and scalable infrastructure-usage related fees were the most trusted methods of cost-recovery.

      <title>Open access book policies: The author’s experience</title>
<description>As part of the PALOMERA OABN free online events series, on the 2nd of October at 2 PM BST / 3 PM CEST Jenneke van der Wal (Leiden University), Arturs Logins (Laval University), Evi Agostini (University of Vienna) and Miloud Belkoniene (University of Zurich) will share the process of publishing their OA books from choosing a publisher to seeing the book shared openly, and whether this was different from their other publishing experiences. The conversation will delve into the advantages and disadvantages of policy mandates from the author’s perspective: what difference did it make to be subject to a policy mandate (or not)? What advice and/or funding was available throughout the process and what were the challenges? What support would they like to have had and what would they do differently next time? And how has the experience of publishing an OA book influenced the authors’ views of open access?

You can register for the event here.

<title>PALOMERA - Help shape the future of OA books! </title>
      <description>Survey deadline approaching!

The PALOMERA project has created one of its first resources, the Knowledge Base collecting OA book policy documents across the European Research Area. It aims to help the community as a first step towards a better overview of what documents exist or are available. After months of working on this resource, we would like to know how are you or how would you use it within your organisation.

For that purpose, we have set up a very short survey on this link that should take 10 to 15 minutes. Within it, you can provide your feedback on different potential uses as well as suggest ideas on future OA book policy recommendations the project is planning to deliver over the next few months. The survey also contains a short demonstration (2-minute video) on how the Knowledge Base works. The deadline is the 15th of June. Your input is very important to us to make sure we continue working on our goals while aligned with the community. Help shape the future of OA books!

For any questions, you can contact Ursula Rabar, Project Community Manager, at ursula.rabar@operas-eu.org.

<title>OA Book Usage Data Trust | Data Quality Community Consultation</title>
<description>OA Book Usage Data Trust | Data Quality Community Consultation

Provide your feedback by the 15th of October via this form: https://forms.gle/3yRb7QfcodndHiTW9

About our work: This effort enables the community-governed sharing of quality, interoperable, Open Access (e)Book Usage (OAEBU) data. Our governance abides by Guiding Principles for OA Book Usage Data Services as we develop a data space for public and private organizations that create, combine, and innovate with OA book usage data. Our Board of Trustees is a working board composed of elected Trustees led by an executive committee of board officers. As noted in the data trust’s governance documentation, trustees share responsibility for: strategy and direction setting, fiduciary oversight of project financials and fiscal sponsorship arrangements, and supervision of the effort’s executive director.

Community Consultation Background: Multiple challenges exist for those who would like to share generated OA book usage data with others (data creators), and for those who rely on such data to provide reporting or services analytics (data users). Currently, individual organizations encounter challenges when aggregating OA book usage data to make strategic decisions about their OA publishing and OA programs. They individually manage, compile, and link usage data metrics making it time-consuming. Additionally, they may face resource challenges in adopting COUNTER, instead relying on tools such as Google Analytics that further complicate usage data interoperability. While many deliver audited, trusted usage metrics through COUNTER-compliant reports, aggregating usage metrics across platforms is not common. Finally, some organizations are often unable to provide their raw usage data to competitors due to dynamics that cannot be resolved by trust alone.

Such challenges extend beyond scholarly communications. To address such issues across industries in an interoperable way, European agencies have fostered International Data Spaces (IDS) infrastructure for data sharing through a neutral intermediary that is as open as possible, but as controlled as necessary. The IDS aim is to provide a digital infrastructure to foster the exchange and computation of data among public and private competitors, to generate value through: 1) increased interoperability, 2) trust in secure and transparent exchange, and 3) multiparty data governance through usage controls and community-based accountability measures.

The Open Access Book Usage Data Trust (OAEBUDT) is piloting the Industry Data Space (IDS) model in scholarly communications, building upon emerging design principles, technical architectures, and standards. Supported by the Mellon Foundation, the OAEBUDT is developing ‘Governance Building Blocks' for its IDS, to guide the rules and accountability measures for OAEBUDT participation. To inform the development of model standard contractual clauses, this project is developing an OA Book Usage Data Exchange and Stewardship Rulebook to specify the principles that generate trust through OAEBUDT participation, usage data management, processing, and provision.

<title>OA Book Usage Data Trust | Community Consultations Feb - Mar</title>
<description>The OA Book Usage Data Trust (OAEBUDT) effort that is working under the vision of Community Governed Sharing of Quality, Interoperable, Open Access (OA) Book Usage Data is aiming to launch an international data space to act as a neutral intermediary for the OA book usage data exchange between public and private organisations. They would like to hear feedback from the community on two important development aspects:

1. OA Book Usage Data Exchange and Stewardship Rulebook - Online Web Form Community Consultation

With the support from the community, the OAEBUDT effort has prepared a first draft of the OA Book Usage Data Exchange and Stewardship Rulebook to specify the principles that generate trust through OAEBUDT participation, usage data management, processing, and provision. As a key component in this process, they would like to hear feedback from the community on the draft to ensure it is developed by listening to all the different perspectives.

You can access the draft and provide your feedback via this form until the 7th of March.

2. Membership and Sustainability Models – Online Focus Groups

To explore and evaluate ways to sustain a trusted, neutral data intermediary infrastructure within the scholarly publishing ecosystem and to consider the strengths and weaknesses of various cost-recovery oriented revenue generation options for the OAEBUDT, they have organized two online focus groups.

By filling in this form, you can sign up and choose the one that works best for your time zone:

March 20th at 9.00 AM CET / 8.00 AM UTC / 4.00 AM EDT

March 20th at 3.00 PM CET / 2.00 PM UTC / 10.00 AM EDT
