Gyan Satyagraha in the internet age

Summary:

"Modern efforts on open source and access to knowledge continue to be a key struggle for the modern age. In this GeekUp, Carl Malamud talks about different visions of the Internet, from the early model of a centralized “smart” network (what he calls the Raj Internet) to the centralized behemoths of today (what he calls the East India Company Internet).

There is another Internet - the Gandhian Internet - which is built on principles of a distributed network and open protocols. This Internet is still the core of our modern Internet despite the large corporations that now inhabit that world. This Internet builds on principles that underlie the open source and A2K movements. Carl Malamud will make the case for why these movements are Gandhian in nature, and continues his call for a Gyan Satyagraha to continue this struggle for an open network with open access for all."
