The 2025 report revealed several major statistics about the success of the still-young D2O program, which was launched in 2021:
- Open access books at the MIT Press receive two times as much digital usage as traditionally published monographs
- Humanities and Social Sciences books in the D2O program receive 8% more citations than non-open books, and STEAM books receive 5% more citations
- D2O books have been accessed 705,000 times since the program’s launch..."
