"As background, when we launched Arthroscopy Techniques in 2012-2013,5, 6 we were thrilled to offer an open-access journal. At that time, we understood that open access meant free (we were wrong), online, and open to the public, without a pay wall, “fire wall,” or password protection. Ah, 2012, the good old days, and the promise of the Internet. But in only 5 years, in 2017, open access means all of the above, plus authors pay an APC...."
