Summary:
"Better understanding repository usage and impact is an important part of operating repositories. Such analytics enable standards-based measurements to be taken and intelligence about repository usage to steer development objectives and better meet user requirements. In some circumstances it can also facilitate benchmarking with other repositories and institutions. We use several flavours of repository analytics as the basis of our intelligence including:
- IRUS-UK (Institutional Repository Usage Statistics UK): “a Jisc-funded national aggregation service, which provides COUNTER-conformant usage statistics for all content downloaded from participating UK institutional repositories (IRs).” The raw data provided by the IRUS-UK service provides the basis for our regular usage blog posts, such as this one.
- IRStats2: “a statistical framework for EPrints - It comes with some cool default tools and reports and it can also be customised to, for instance, add new metrics or data sets.”
We also use several more generic tools including Google Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools and Google Analytics.
But there is always a need for more intelligence, especially of the repository specific sort – and it is therefore with pleasure we can announce that Strathprints has joined RAMP: the Repository Analytics & Metrics Portal...."
