Summary:

In his paper, Olaf Siegert first places the topic of Open Access in the overarching context of scientific publishing. He also discusses the different variations and, in particular, the role of science policy in the further implementation of OA as the predominant publication model in the future science system. In addition, various figures and studies are used to classify the extent to which the topic of Open Access has already arrived in everyday academic life. Furthermore, the problem of predictive publishing is addressed as well as DEAL and Plan S as current developments in the context of the OA transformation. Siegert's concluding recommendations contain various tips on OA-compliant publishing for researchers at universities and other academic institutions.
