Summary:
Abstract: An analytical description using established bibliometric techniques of the New Journal of Physics (NJP) from its first issue in January of 1999 to the December issue of 2009 is presented. Data was collected from the NJP website and three other databases: INSPEC, the Web of Science Citation Index (SCI), and its Journal Citation Reports (JCR). The results present the general characteristics of NJP, and it compares NJP with other similar physics journals. It also reports about authors' productivity, institutional affiliations of authors, NJP subject coverage, funding agencies, international scope of NJP, and its impact as a physics journal.
