"Big Ten universities and the University of Chicago have now made digital copies of a million books available online as part of a project with Google Books but they say they're just getting started. Kim Armstrong is Deputy Director of the Center for Library Initiatives at the Committee on Institutional Cooperation. The group comprises the 11 Big Ten schools and the University of Chicago and allows them to work together on academics and research. Armstrong told The News-Gazette in Champaign that the universities and Google Books plan to eventually provide open access 10 million books online. Armstrong said the books have expired copyrights.
