Free Online Textbook Project Gets Federal Money - Wired Campus - The Chronicle of Higher Education

"The University of Illinois system has received federal money to create an open-access textbook to be used on its three campuses, as well as the state's community colleges, and shared with colleges and universities around the country, said Charles V. Evans, the university's assistant vice president for academic affairs. The project is financed by a $150,000 grant from the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education....The same fund awarded a two-year, $300,000 grant to the Florida Distance Learning Consortium to study the barriers to adopting open-source textbooks, according to Susan L. Henderson, the project's director...."
