From the Editor [Michael Chibnik] of American Anthropologist

This editorial in American Anthropologist describes the impossibility of transitioning the journal, now operating successfully using the subscription model, to the gold open-access model. The author states, "I now think that gold open access publication is unlikely to be feasible in the near future for AA" (p. 225). Describing obstacles to moving to gold open-access, the eitor states,  "Because few anthropologists have access to such funds, surveys of AAA members have consistently indicated strong opposition to authors’ fees" (p. 226).
