"This report summarises the work at the University of Southampton in implementing the RCUK policy 
on open access during the period April 2013 to July 2014. Readers are requested to note the 
following comments which set the context for the information provided.  The University of Southampton has a preference for green open access, but also supports gold open access and in particular high quality open access journals with appropriate business models that ensure value for money. We aim to continue to improve compliance whilst supporting the freedom of researchers to select the most appropriate established and emerging publications in their disciplines. Our emphasis in this first phase has been on promoting open access rather than 
identifying non-compliance ..."
