" ... The Open Access movement has found in recent years increasingly political supporters. While in Germany it is absent, unlike in the United States and Great Britain, on a national Open Access policy, but individual federal states go ahead, for example, North Rhine-Westphalia and Baden-Württemberg . Now pull the country after Berlin. In May this year the Berlin House of Representatives has an open access strategy decided. This in turn has representatives from universities and research institutions, including the MDC, led to form an open-access network to support the Senate in the implementation of Open Access strategy. It will be important to call the Berlin research institutions to develop their own, and ideally jointly coordinated open-access strategies. This will ensure that not only scientific publications are freely available, but also other digital objects, such as research data or software that have arisen in the course of publicly funded research. The MDC has its own platform, called a repository for open access data. This gives us a good starting position; nevertheless comparatively few MDC publications have so far only been uploaded in it - a fact that should give us pause. Ahead of the international Open Access Week (October 20 to 26), the three major Berlin universities HU, FU and TU, together with the non-university organization (Fraunhofer, Helmholtz, Leibniz, Max Planck) a 'kick-off' event held organized. It will be about the importance of Open Access for the future of science in Berlin, there are exemplary examples from other states and a forum in which can be discussed on the way to an open-access publication system. Admission is free and the event is open to all interested parties ..."
