"The term 'Open Data' describes a trend, in the Internet, aiming at making digital data accessible and reusable. Due to its several and numerous applications, Open Data has been proving a versatile tool to be used in the most different and various fields. Although health and the environment have been the pivotal fields of application, the seminar will examine the potential role Open Data might play in a further context, namely the food sector. This is in consideration of both the 'relational dimension' connecting human beings and food, and citizens’ requests for more democratic processes within European food safety policy. The seminar will be focused on the question of whether and how European food law could be correlated to the new category of Open Data to offer its citizenry new forms of communication and information sharing, through which they can actively and interactively make food-related choices and conduct new research activities ..."
