Summary:
"As part of the European Digital Single Market strategy, the Open Science Cloud will raise research to the next level. It promotes not only scientific excellence and data reuse but also job growth and increased competitiveness in Europe, and drives Europe-wide cost efficiencies in scientific infrastructure through the promotion of interoperability on an unprecedented scale. This researcher centric European Open Science Cloud will offer researchers from all disciplines seamless, open access to the advanced digital capabilities, resources and expertise they need to collaborate and to carry out data- and computing-intensive science. Secure and trustworthy, the Open Science Cloud engages researchers in governing, managing and preserving resources for everyone’s benefit. The Open Science Cloud is an open, service-driven endeavour, inclusive of all stakeholders. Governed as a commons, it leverages two decades of public and private investment in e-infrastructures for the benefit of scientific research and innovation. Following a recent joint statement on the European Open Science Cloud for Research (EOSC) by EUDAT, LIBER, OpenAIRE, EGI and GÉANT (http://dx.doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.32915), the first in a series of workshops to discuss this joint vision was organised in Bari in November 2015. The second workshop, taking place in Rome 5 February 2016, will focus on understanding the roles of e-Infrastructures and Research infrastructures in this initiative, together with the potential governance models for a concrete contribution to Europe’s Digital Single Market. Researchers, research infrastructure, and e-Infrastructures together with national and international service provider, data centre and research organisation strategists and decision makers are invited to attend and actively participate in this discussion. The workshop takes place at the NH Leonardo Da Vinci Hotel, via dei Gracchi, Rome. Attendees are cordially invited to attend a networking reception on 4th February 2016 from 19:00 onwards at the same venue ..."
