Summary:

The University of Leeds is one of the largest higher education institutions in the UK. Leeds is also one of the UK’s top ten research institutions and well known throughout the world for its quality of teaching and research.  Integrating research with learning and teaching is at the heart of the Leeds strategy.  The University has a vision to create, advance and disseminate knowledge, and Open Access has a key role to play in this strategy.  The University of Leeds adopted a Publication Policy back in October 2013, and the University continues to work hard to ensure that the systems that they have in place to support the policy are streamlined, explicit, and create an environment where OA is embraced.  For Gold Open Access, the University needs to ensure that processes are in place to handle APC payments and provide the financial and other data that the institution needs to monitor compliance with the University’s and funders’ OA policies. The systems used also need to be quick and easy for authors.  To that end, the University of Leeds agreed to participate in the Jisc APC pilot, which aims to help all parties evaluate the use of an intermediary for managing processing charges.
