Homeland Security Digital Library Blog 2012-11-05
Summary:
The National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START) has produced a new report detailing the creation of its Countermeasures against Extremism and Terrorism (CoMET) Database.
A press release from START says that the report describes counterterrorism activity performed against Homegrown Islamic Violent Extremists in the United Kingdom (HIVE-UK), al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) and Anti-Abortion Extremists (AAE) in the United States.
According to Jonathan Kennedy, author of the report, "CoMET is important because it is one of the first large-scale datasets to systematically catalogue counterterrorism events. [...] Perhaps the biggest contribution of CoMET is that it can enhance our understanding of the variety of countermeasures employed against a variety of threats and across different contexts."
Readers are encouraged to e-mail START to obtain a copy of the report. The report is currently not available online.
