Open Access at Oxford » Meeting HEFCE OA requirements for the next (post-2014) REF

Amsciforum 2014-06-28

Summary:

"1. Short summary of the HEFCE REF Open Access policy To be eligible for submission to the post-2014 REF, the final peer-'reviewed (author accepted) manuscript of all articles and conference proceedings submitted from 1 April 2016 must be deposited in an open access institutional or subject repository (such as ORA) within three (3) months of acceptance. The title and author of these deposits and other descriptive information must be discoverable straight away by anyone with a search engine. The manuscripts must then be accessible for anyone to read and download once any embargo period has elapsed. Listing or posting papers on personal or departmental web sites does not meet HEFCE requirements. ‘Non-compliant outputs will be given an unclassified score and will not be assessed in the REF’.  Where one can demonstrate steps towards enabling open access for other types of outputs (e.g. monographs, other long-form publications, creative or non-text outputs, or data) via an institutional or subject repository, ‘credit will be given in the research environment component. A more detailed summary may be downloaded here. 2. What do I do at Oxford? The University Research Committee has approved the setting up of the Oxford Open Access Service Design Project led by the Bodleian Libraries with oversight by the Open Access Oxford Project Group.  Pending completion of this project during summer, Oxford authors can submit material to the Oxford Research Archive (ORA) using the current Contribute facility (which in the  process  of being redesigned and enhanced) or submit to a recognised open access disciplinary repository (or subject repository) (see OpenDoar for links)."
