Mediation blocks Prestage Farms hog factories near Lake Ponderosa

We are finally able to give an update on the status of the hog confinement that was to be built south of the lake. ...

Prestage Farms has agreed not to build the hog confinement on that particular parcel of land. They have also agreed not to build any additional animal confinements, nor expand any existing ones, within a 6-mile radius of the high water mark of the three lakes here: Lake Ponderosa, Lake Silverado, and Lake Cimarron. The owner of the 3.5 acres, Dan Hull, has also signed papers agreeing not to build any type of animal confinement on that land. This is great news for our lake community and the town of Montezuma.

This will not stop other companies from coming in and trying to build a confinement, but we will have to deal with each situation as it arises. And without the cooperative and financial efforts of so many people here it would not have happened.
