Does Book Touring Still Matter?

Over on his Whatever blog, John Scalzi gives eight reasons why he answers that question with "yes". As he's presently on a book tour it might be somewhat self-serving for him to say this but actually I think he makes good points and I generally agree with him. Then again, I'm an old fuddy-duddy who insists on reading books via ink smeared on dead trees.
