Students at Grinnell College are all too familiar with different invasions of Burling Library, the most infamous student group intrusion outside of flash mobs probably being the Cross Country runners' "Naked Mile." 40 years ago, however, the quiet, studious atmosphere Burling is known for was temporarily interrupted by something entirely different than naked bodies – Mimes. Yes, that's right. Apparently, this rambunctious mime troupe consisting of 7 Grinnell students decided to wreak havoc at Burling after straying too far from dress rehearsal.
Here you can see the start of the Mime Invasion of '74.
Soon after entering the library, the troupe veered their way towards the book shelves.
They juggle too?!
One member nonchalantly holds a juggling ball in her mouth.
For information on more quirky student groups on campus, come investigate in the Iowa Room located in the basement of Burling. Who knows, you might see a mime troupe on your way here (if you don't I promise I'll attempt to mime for you – after all, I've gotten plenty of practice being down here by myself in silence)!
