Grinnell, Iowa
3/28/13

Archeologist, international scholar and peace activist Sudharshan Seneviratne will speak at Grinnell College about his efforts to undertake heritage peace initiatives in Sri Lanka. From 1983 until 2009, Sri Lanka was engulfed in a bloody civil war, and post-violence issues continue to engulf the country.

Seneviratne's talk will take place at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, April 8, in Noyce 2022. The event is open to the public at no charge.

As a faculty member at the University of Peradeniya in Kandy, Sri Lanka, and director general of Sri Lanka's Central Cultural Fund from 2007 to 2010, Seneviratne has used archeology to promote inclusiveness in Sri Lanka's diverse island society, and developed heritage initiatives as outreach programs to work toward conflict resolution, reconciliation and peace.

Seneviratne is a visiting professor this year at Whitman College in Walla Walla Washington.

His visit to Grinnell College is sponsored by the college's Environmental Studies Concentration and the Peace Studies Program.
