Grinnell College Names Randy Stiles Associate Vice President for Analytic Support and Institutional Research

 Grinnell, Iowa – Grinnell College President Raynard Kington announced that he has appointed Randy Stiles as associate vice president for analytic support and institutional research. Currently the special adviser for the president, analytics, at Colorado College, Stiles will begin work at Grinnell on August 1.

"Randy Stiles is an accomplished scholar, teacher and administrator who can help lead Grinnell toward a culture of data-informed and evidence-based decision-making," Kington said. "With his guidance, the Office of Analytic Support and Institutional Research will support teaching and learning outcomes assessment, enrollment management and administrative program analysis, all of which are part of continuous strategic thinking, planning and action."

Stiles said, "Grinnell is a college I have studied and admired for a long time. I'm very excited about working together with people across campus to explore how new methods and tools of analytics might stimulate good questions and inform decisions in both academic and administrative matters."

About Randy Stiles In his current role at Colorado College, Stiles supports the president's office in strategic thinking, planning and initiatives. His work has a special emphasis on enhancing the college's business intelligence capabilities. From 2003 to 2011, Stiles served as the college's vice president for information management, overseeing institutional research and planning, as well as information technology services.

Stiles has taught courses at Colorado on the physics of flight. He previously served as a tenured faculty member at the U.S. Air Force Academy, where he taught courses in aeronautics and led the academy's Center for Educational Excellence. He has written articles on both pedagogy and on technical matters, and is co-author of a book on aircraft design.

A fellow with the American Council on Education, Stiles is an experienced peer reviewer and a member of the board of directors of Educause, a nonprofit association that advances higher education through the use of information technology. Stiles also has served as a team leader for the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Stiles holds B.S and M.S. degrees in aeronautical and astronautical engineering from the University of Illinois. He earned an M.B.A. degree from Northeastern University and a Ph.D. in aeronautical engineering from Purdue.
