GRINNELL, IA—Grinnell College is one of 26 members of the Iowa Association of Independent Colleges and Universities that will host prospective students and families during Iowa Private College Week August 5-9.

More than 5,000 Iowa students and families who want to jumpstart the college search process are expected to participate in Iowa Private College Week, visiting private colleges across the state.

Corey McClain, assistant director of admission and coordinator of Iowa Private College week for Grinnell, said the week-long program "offers students and families an in-depth snapshot of the college. Iowa Private College Week is a great way for students and their families to experience Grinnell College and to see what a liberal arts education offers. It can also help determine which of the 26 participating institutions is the right fit for their future."

Information sessions will be held daily on the Grinnell campus at 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Prospective students will meet with faculty, staff and current students, and learn about the numerous academic programs offered, as well as the admission process and financial aid availability. Campus tours—including the opportunity to tour the Noyce Science Center and the Bucksbaum Center for the Arts—also will be offered.

Each visiting student will receive a "passport" stamped at each private college on the tour; students who visit three or more campuses and enroll at a participating college are eligible for $500 bookstore drawings. Students may register for a Grinnell or Iowa Private College Week campus visit at http://www.grinnell.edu/admission/visit, or at www.thinkindependently.com.

Since its founding in 1846, Grinnell has become one of the nation's premier liberal arts colleges, enrolling 1,600 students from all 50 states and from as many international countries. Grinnell offers the B.A. degree in a range of departments across the humanities, arts and sciences, and the college's rigorous academic program emphasizes excellence in education for students in the liberal arts. Grinnell has a strong tradition of social responsibility and action, and self-governance and personal responsibility are key components of campus life.
