The limited attendance show begins 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, at Bishop’s Lodge in Santa Fe. “At least half of what we are showing has never been seen by the public,” Black said, in reference to the Kiva New collections being brought to the boutique runway. Propelled by the enormous success of the Indigenous fashion shows during Santa Fe Indian Market and the world’s interest in Native North American fashion designers, the show’s producer, Amber- Dawn Bear Robe for SWAIA, says, “Kiva New is currently featured in the Art of Indigenous Fashion at IAIA’s Museum of Contemporary Native Arts, and included as one of America’s great designers at The Metropolitan Museum’s exhibit, In America: An Anthology of Fashion.” One of the first Native American designers to create a successful high-fashion brand, New launched Lloyd Kiva Design Associates in Scottsdale, Arizona, in the 1950s— helping to establish the city as a high-end art and fashion destination. New became the art director of the Institute of American Indian Arts in 1961, where he taught his textile design process and techniques to students, encouraging them to experiment. The Lloyd Kiva New runway show will be an intimate event that begins with a reception serving spirited beverages. For tickets and more information, visit this LINK.
