Make Tomorrow Better, Today
ProfHacker 2014-06-12
There are plenty of good suggestions out there about how to create new habits, how to make the most of your mornings, and how to balance your energy for optimal performance. (And we’ve even written a few of these ourselves here at ProfHacker.)
But today I just want to say that you don’t need to read another book or blog post about how to process your email or what to eat or when to do the things on your to-do list.
You already know what helps you be the best version of you.
So right now, just sit with a pen and paper or a blank notetaking app in front of you and write down three to five things you could do that you know could help you have the best possible day tomorrow. Not what would help you be superhuman, or what would help you try to be like somebody else — just what works for you.
The things on your list might seem simple, or trivial, or obvious. But write them down anyway. Getting those specifics down on paper makes it that much easier to make them happen.
For instance, some of the things I know that help me have the best possible day include: getting up before sunrise; morning meditation and yoga; and taking the time to set my priorities the night before.
Writing these things down on an index card I keep near my desk helps me commit to and follow through on those actions.
You already know what will help you have a better day tomorrow. It only takes a few moments to tap into that knowledge and put it into practice.
What is one action that helps you be happier or more productive? Let us know in the comments!
