Elsevier bought MendeleyI've had a Mendeley account for just about as long as Mendeley has existed. I don't use it, because it doesn't fit my way of working (long story, off-topic here, and no reflection on the software). But I kept my account out of solidarity and moral support. I liked the idea, the vision, and the people. I just deleted my account. I'm boycotting Elsevier for a reason. It lobbies against green OA mandates at public funding agencies, and it erects contractual barriers to green OA mandates at universities. https://plus.google.com/109377556796183035206/posts/aWHSSL1puoCI didn't delete my account because I believe that Elsevier will destroy Mendeley or make it less open. Elsevier might have bought it precisely to signal greater openness to openness. However, even in that brighter future, Mendeley still doesn't fit my way of working. I deleted my account because I don't use the software and because I no longer feel a need to show solidarity and moral support. I don't know what I would have done if I had used Mendeley regularly and depended on it, and I don't assume that the decision would have been nearly as easy.#oa #openaccess #mendeley #elsevier
