"Leading up to the CERN OAI9 Workshop on Innovations in Scholarly Communication, Makerere University participated in a DSpace User Group Meeting hosted by the University of Geneva, Switzerland to explore how we can improve our own Institutional Repository which runs on DSpace software. In my capacity as repository manager at Makerere University Library I attended the meeting to share learning with other members of the DSpace community and to share Makerere's experience of working on the Global Open Knowledge Hub (GOKH) programme. The GOKH programme involves the Institute of Development Studies, the British Library for Development Studies and eight partners (including Makerere University) who have been working together to increase our mutual capacity to engage and innovate using Open Data approaches and Open Access standards. Our ultimate aim is to improve the supply and accessibility of content that supports evidence informed policy making and practice by development actors.
