Call for Panel Participants: Monastic Music – A Transnational Perspective #MedRen2019

Ordensgeschichte 2019-08-20

For next year’s Medieval and Renaissance Music Conference at Basle, music historian Dr Barbara Eichner (Oxford Brookes University) would like to propose a panel on “Monastic Music – A Transnational Perspective”. She is looking for colleagues who want to share current work-in-progress about music in monasteries and nunneries across Europe and beyond in the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. Such a panel would put our individual work in an international perspective, teasing out similarities and differences, changes and continuities, opportunities and limitations in a range of geographic settings, monastic orders and gendered environments. All ideas are welcome, whether you are working on ecclesiastical politics, church reform, places, spaces, instruments, style, songs, spirituality, biographies, networks – whatever inspires a lively dialogue about monastic music broadly defined. If you are interested to be part of such a panel, which might become the starting point to a more formalised international collaboration, please get in touch with barbara.eichner@brookes.ac.uk. And please share this “call” with colleagues and friends who might not be on Facebook.
