Funniest/Most Insightful Comments Of The Week At Techdirt
Techdirt. 2025-02-23
This week, our first place winner on the insightful side is an anonymous comment about DOGE’s supposed savings:
It’s easy to afford a car and house when you don’t do any maintenance on it.
I’ve come to the conclusion that right wingers have no concept of short term vs long term costs.
In second place, it’s some anonymous speculation in reply to a comment about the “pedo guy” fiasco:
Knowing what I’ve learned about right wing projection over the past decades, every accusation being a confession and all, my feeling is that it’s for the better Elon was nowhere near those kids.
For editor’s choice on the insightful side, we start out with a comment from Bloof about the disappointing media response to the White House banning journalists:
They alienated the left and center by trying to appeal to people on the right, hiring people who would see them shut down given half a chance. They thought they were following the Overton window, but instead they were helping to shove it further right with every racist, war criminal or scam artist they platformed and helped to normalise.
Next, it’s an anonymous comment about Twitter paying Trump millions to settle cases it had already won:
The thing about paying protection money is that once you start, you don’t ever get to stop.
Over on the funny side, our first place winner is an anonymous quip about the fact that OpenStreetMap hasn’t changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico:
Admittedly, most cars seldom get more than a couple lengths into the Gulf (by whatever name) before they stop.
In second place, it’s Strawb with a comment about the apparent corruption of the Twitter settlement payout:
I’m sure DOGE will sniff this out and correct it!
For editor’s choice on the funny side, we’ve got a one-two punch about the idea that “noone is above the law”, with MrWilson providing the setup:
Whoever this Noone guy is, he must be pretty happy to learn that he’s above the law.
…and an anonymous commenter bringing it home:
It’s a typo of Noonez. Last name Cow
That’s all for this week, folks!
