Summary:

Thanks Pete! Yes, control society is hard to define. It’s also Deleuze’s point that such characteristics of a society is seemingly transparent but opaque, and thus difficult to distinguish. I think ‘who’s in control?’ question is central to the control society. I’s perhaps no singular being or state, rather the control mechanism “continuous signal of connectivity” as the governing factor. Delezue’s quote “In actuality there is an imposed and inescapable uniformity to our compulsory labor of self-management. The illusion of choice and autonomy is one of the foundations of this global system of auto-regulation.” seems to help. As a concrete example of ‘control’ I like to bring examples of production → financialization, such as sharing economy platforms. In my slides (enter space for next slide), there are more real life examples, like call centers, data colonialism, and etc
