"Detailed Description [ : ] The Scholarly Communications Librarian is responsible for assisting librarians, faculty, administrators, staff, and students with digital projects and developing and managing the University's institutional repository. They will plan services and develop standards for digital and repository projects and prepare related workflow documentation and procedures.

The Scholarly Communications Librarian will take the lead in support of sustainable scholarly communication presented and preserved in the institutional repository, InSPIRe.redlands.edu. The Scholarly Communications Librarian is expected to support locally created online journals, conference proceedings, electronic theses and dissertations, undergraduate literary journals, scientific datasets, born-digital documents, and other similar content. They will develop and document digitization policies, preservation strategies, and scanning practices. As the Library's rights management specialist, the Scholarly Communications Librarian works closely with faculty to identify and to advise on issues related to intellectual property, open access, and copyright of scholarly output at the University. They will coordinate with library faculty and staff to devise and implement outreach activities regarding promoting digital projects, the institutional repository and scholarly communications on campus. In addition, they will serve as one of the Library’s liaisons with bepress, our repository platform.

The Scholarly Communications Librarian must possess the ability to work independently, in a supervisory role, and as a team member to develop the institutional repository and to solve problems. They must be capable of managing projects while effectively balancing competing priorities and deadlines.

The Scholarly Communications Librarian will serve as a subject liaison librarian, providing collection management, reference, research, instructional and outreach services to students, faculty, staff and community users as the subject librarian for social science programs in the College of Arts and Sciences.

The Scholarly Communications Librarian will be expected to demonstrate evidence of engaging in scholarly and professional activities in order to meet reappointment and promotion criteria."
