"The Digital Scholarship Librarian leads the development and implementation of library initiatives in support of current and emerging research, teaching and creative activities in digital scholarship on campus.  This includes designing and presenting workshops on digital tools, resources and best practices on digital scholarship; coordinating the development and expansion of sustainable digital scholarship services at the Libraries; building partnerships with library faculty and campus departments; and establishing a community of practice for digital scholarship across campus. 

The Digital Scholarship Librarian also manages and oversees the Libraries' institutional repository, The ORB (The Open Repository @Binghamton). This includes coordinating campus outreach efforts to promote participation among faculty and students; managing The ORB's digital collections and uploading content; and advising scholars on copyright issues related to The ORB.

The position reports directly to the Head of Digital Initiatives and Resource Discovery. Librarians at Binghamton University are members of the faculty and are expected to contribute significantly to the profession.  Other duties or subject responsibilities may be assigned contingent on the incumbent's interests and institutional needs. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan for the development of the Libraries' Digital Scholarship Center
  • Lead implementation of digital scholarship initiatives for the Libraries
  • Collaborate with library staff to strengthen programs related to: digital scholarship services, digital collections, open access publishing, the institutional repository and digital preservation
  • Work with faculty and others on campus to secure their commitment to use the institutional repository; develop materials and processes to support the institutional repository
  • Identify and evaluate digital scholarship tools and methodologies in support of teaching, research and creative activities in digital scholarship
  • Design and teach workshops on digital scholarship tools, resources and best practices
  • Actively seek opportunities to develop partnerships and collaborations with academic and other campus departments in digital scholarship and serves as primary contact for these projects
  • Support and serve as a resource to faculty developing digital scholarship projects 
  • Represent the Libraries to appropriate campus units and University offices and participate in professional activities and committee assignments within the Libraries, on campus and in professional associations"
