"A school of cloud"

"Il prof. Roberto Barbera, della sezione INFN di Catania e docente di Fisica Sperimentale presso il Dipartimento di Fisica e Astronomia dell’Università di Catania ci spiega meglio come è nata questa iniziativa e quali saranno gli sviluppi futuri: 'il Protocollo d'Intesa tra la Sezione di Catania dell'INFN e l'Istituto Cannizzaro si inquadra da una parte nelle attività di alternanza scuola lavoro e dall'altra parte alle attività di trasferimento tecnologico e di formazione informale che l'INFN abitualmente svolge. In questo progetto', prosegue il prof. Barbera, 'l’INFN ha donato alla scuola un’infrastrutture di calcolo, ovvero un piccolo cluster di computer che viene usato come banco di prova per realizzare tutta una serie di attività formative. Il progetto servirà a far conoscere ai ragazzi la tecnologia cloud (dropbox, ICloud) ma soprattutto per far vedere loro come si realizza un'infrastruttura cloud, come si gestisce e come su di essa si possono installare dei servizi. Quindi da una parte il cloud come fine dall'altra parte il cloud come mezzo perché l'infrastruttura e il sito che verrà installato e configurato presso l'istituto scolastico sarà anche sede di servizi quali archivi ad accesso aperto di dati e documenti prodotti dalla scuola ma anche analisi dei dati prodotti da un rivelatore per raggi cosmici."

"The prof. Roberto Barbera , of the Catania INFN Section and Professor of Experimental Physics at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Catania best explains us how did this initiative and what will be the future development: 'The Memorandum of Understanding between the Chamber of Catania and INFN Cannizzaro Institute is part of a part in the activities of alternating school and work on the other side to the technology transfer activities and informal education that INFN habitually carries. In this project,' says Prof.Barbera, 'the INFN donated to the school infrastructure in the calculation, which is a small cluster of computers that is used as a test bench to create a whole range of educational activities. The project will serve to illustrate to students the technology cloud (Dropbox, iCloud) but above all to show them how to make a cloud infrastructure, how it handles on it and how you can install the services. So on one hand the cloud as an end across the cloud as a means because the infrastructure and the site that will be installed and configured at the school will also host services such as open access repositories of data and documents produced by the school but also analysis of the data produced by a detector for cosmic rays."
