Summary:

"Open Data Labs Jakarta introduced a new open data software at the Goethe Institut in Central Jakarta on Tuesday (07/03).

The software was launched at the 'Open is the New Smart, Making Cities Work for Citizens,' an event to celebrate Open Data Day on March 4.

Open data is a movement to make data accessible for everyone to use without the restriction of copyrights. It has already established an online database which can be accessed from a local network or from an internet browser. The data may include codes to build applications and operating systems, and the end result may be used widely and for free.

Over the past few years, a growing number of cities across Indonesia have launched initiatives to use open data to improve public service. However, the manager of Open Data Labs Jakarta, Antya Widita, said open data has not quite caught the public's attention in Indonesia.

'Open data software is still new and not many people have heard about it here. That's why we've organized this event, to get open data on everyone's lips,' she said.

Antya said open data provides accessible digital tools that can be used for many different purposes. Individuals, companies and organizations can use open data to do research on new ventures, analyze patterns and trends or solve complex problems that need a lot of data and research."
