"Background: We are organizing and documenting data to promote a culture of open data and open science in the Gulf of Mexico. The Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative Information & Data Cooperative is a team of scientific researchers, data specialists and software developers developing and implementing a data management system to store, share and archive scientific data generated by Gulf of Mexico researchers. GRIIDC is based out the Harte Research Institute for Gulf of Mexico Studies at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.

Job duties: The research specialist, under general supervision, reviews, organizes and documents datasets available through the Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative Information & Data Cooperative (GRIIDC) data management system. Working with data managers and Gulf of Mexico scientists, the research specialist will ensure data are shared in appropriate formats with required documentation. The research specialist will be responsible for transforming and organizing data for submission to NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) archive system, and other national archives when appropriate.
