Summary:

Today, U.S. Sen. Al Franken continued his push to make college more affordable for students in Minnesota and across the country with a proposal to expand access to free online textbooks.   His bill, known as the Affordable College Textbook Act, would support the creation and use of open college textbooks-textbooks that are available under an open license, allowing professors, students, researchers and others to freely access the materials. Textbooks are one of the most overlooked costs of going to college. For example, the average student budget for college books and supplies last year was $1,250, and according to research, 65 percent of students have decided not to buy a textbook because of the cost.
