Open Science in (Higher) Education | Leibniz Research Alliance Science 2.0

Digital developments have changed the life of researchers in many ways, leading to new forms of exchange, communication, interaction and collaboration. These changes evolve into the current Open Science movement, which aims at making science more open, transparent und accessible. Today, open science is a significant aspect in science and therefor should be considered in scientific education. Open science allows students to be part of the scientific community and even actively engage in it, for example when scientists will recognize their accessible works and theses. However, to enable students’ – that is our future researchers’ – active participation requires making them aware of their options as well as introducing to them relevant tools and behaviors. Only then do they exploit their benefits and gain expertise relevant for science and industry. The aim of the working group is to achieve a discipline independent common basis to introduce relevant open science elements to students, future researchers as well as lecturers. This includes to analyze and define interdisciplinary educational objectives and skills significant for the target group. We aim at an open and collaborative exchange about open science projections and issues in education. Educational objectives and relevant knowledge about open science aspects and shall be discussed and summarized in a discipline independent framework, accessible as open educational resource (OER).
