"The Swiss Academy of Sciences has long attributed a distinction to excellent journalistic articles on the subject of the natural sciences. Five years ago, we received between twenty and thirty cases each year. Now, this number is halved because the number of journalists and articles is falling dramatically. The reason is simple: the crisis of journalism. Parallel to this phenomenon, another crisis continues, it is that of science. And the more journalism atrophies, the more science suffers. Today, the number of researchers publishing scientific works is increasing, which in itself is a rather positive trend. Unfortunately, the mechanisms at work are such that scientists are more rewarded for the quantity than the quality of their publications."
